If you caught the Class 5A final, you saw a rare one. Sandia beat No. 7 Capital 5-1 on Thursday night at the UNM soccer complex for the Matadors' first boys soccer title in 34 years. Senior forward Teo Ojeda scored a hat trick, and Jade Field opened the scoring in the 10th minute.

“We just wanted it more and I think it showed,” Ojeda said. Capital had beaten Sandia twice in district play.

There's a Santa Fe twist. Ojeda's mother, Loreyna, a Santa Fe native, went to Capital. She cheered from the front row with a beach ball-sized cutout of her son's face, a little conflicted.
