ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ This weekend will offer free fishing, free state park entry and cleanup opportunities to celebrate public lands — events are set to invite local residents to enjoy New Mexico’s outdoor spaces. Santa Fe New Mexican
- ➤ State parks will offer free day-use entry this Saturday, Sept. 27 for National Public Lands Day and free fishing will be available all weekend in New Mexico, with anglers required to follow all fishing regulations — communities are invited to join the annual Pecos-to-Pecos Road and River Cleanup event along the Pecos River on Saturday. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ New Mexico state lawmakers are meeting in Santa Fe next Wednesday for a special session to fight cuts in federal funding. Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham will ask for state money for food aids, Medicaid, rural health care and public radio+ lawmakers may also consider compacts that let doctors work across state lines. - ➤ NASA is launching its IMAP mission today using technology developed at LANL to study solar storms and warn against hazards to satellites, astronauts and power grids. The probe will travel to the sun over the next four months—providing critical data to improve space safety. KOB 4
- ➤ The New Mexico Department of Transportation will sponsor free car seat inspection clinics at nine locations on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., where nationally certified technicians will spend about 30 minutes per seat to check proper installation and advise on safety while a $35 fee will apply if a seat is found unsafe.
