  • Arthur Sze was named US Poet Laureate and Jimmy Kimmel returned to ABC after his remarks—LANL vented tritium waste containers twice last week and an armed man threatened a homeless person, causing a library lockdown.   • Local musician Todd Lovato will perform with his band Todd and the Fox at Second Street Brewery on Friday, Sept 26 at 8 pm—he is joined by backup from Lumpy and Queen Bee Music Association—while Atalaya Magdalena opens an art show at Alas de Agua on Thursday, Sept 25 from 6 to 8 pm, Lensic presents a screening of A Streetcar Named Desire featuring Gillian Anderson at 7 pm Saturday, and The Dandy Warhols will play at Santa Fe Brewing Co. at 7 pm Monday, Sept 29.  Santa Fe Reporter
  • Florence Jaramillo, co-founder and owner of Rancho de Chimayó Restaurante in Chimayo, died Monday morning at age 94. Her restaurant will celebrate its 60th anniversary in October and remains closed until Thursday while funeral arrangements are pending (she was honored as a New Mexico Culinary Treasure in 2014 and received a James Beard America's Classics Award in 2016).  Santa Fe Reporter
  • Santa Fean Jonathan Boyd opened the Thai-Malay restaurant Leo’s on Hickox Street with chef Zakary Pelaccio in charge, and early diners have waited up to an hour for a seat in the small, stylish venue.   • After five years away, multi-instrumentalist Luke Bern Carr is re-launching his Storming the Beaches project with a re-release of his lost album Have Had—placing Santa Fe at the heart of his renewed sound; he will share new music with collaborative efforts and an upcoming Patreon launch.  Santa Fe Reporter
  • Local author Priyanka Kumar, who wrote The Light Between the Apple Trees, will speak with botanist Bob Sivinski at Garcia Street Books at 5 pm Thursday, Sept. 25—she will explain how apples bridge nature and science.   • New Mexico PBS will premiere Law for a Lawless Land — a one-hour documentary on early federal judges during New Mexico Territory’s chaotic years — on Thursday at 7pm with a repeat airing Friday at 9pm. ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • New Mexico’s methane regulations cut oil and gas facility emissions by half compared to Texas and generated $152 million for the state, according to satellite data released Monday. The rules lowered methane intensity to 1.2%—well below Texas’s 3.1%—while production more than doubled since 2020 and captured $125 million in natural gas along with $27 million in tax and royalty revenue.  Santa Fe Reporter

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Governor has deployed the New Mexico National Guard to Española to aid local police — marking the second emergency deployment this year.  Santa Fe New Mexican
  • State broadband officials said that federal funds of $675 million will pay for 32 projects to bring fiber, fixed wireless, and satellite internet to remote areas of New Mexico—if final approvals are given, over 43,000 homes and businesses will be connected and full connectivity could be reached in 3-5 years.  KOB 4

  • Fruit Riot has launched Sour Grapes—a frozen snack made from ripe grapes with lemon juice and sour candy that is now available at Whole Foods and offers 45 calories per 5-7 grapes. Local food news reports that Rancho de Chimayo Restaurante closed Sept. 23 and 24 following owner Florence Jaramillo’s death Monday and will reopen Sept. 25 while Joe’s Dining and Fu Sushi undergo remodeling.  Santa Fe Reporter
