- ➤ Santa Fe Police are setting up sobriety checkpoints and saturation patrols throughout September to deter impaired driving and keep streets safe - the effort is funded by the New Mexico Department of Transportation's Traffic Safety Division and aims to educate drivers about the dangers of driving while intoxicated. - ➤ New Mexico Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham signed a four-year, $120 million agreement with the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency on September 3 to advance quantum computing technology—this partnership will use state universities, private companies and national labs to test if utility-scale quantum computing can be reached by 2033 and boost the economy. The initiative builds on recent investments to strengthen the state’s research and innovation efforts in emergent technologies. Santa Fe Reporter
- ➤ New Mexico U.S. Sen. Ben Ray Lujan joined fellow senators to introduce the Headwater Protections Act (a bill that would expand U.S. Forest Service programs to fund projects preventing water pollution in national forests) to protect water sources vital to the state. KOB 4
- ➤ A man argued his Second Amendment rights should include using a machine gun for self-defense, but the 10th Circuit Court ruled Tuesday that these guns are not common self-defense weapons and cannot be used in New Mexico — the decision was based on a case from Kansas. KOB 4
