  • Cesar Agusto Salguero Gomez, a 58-year-old from Guatemala, died of an overdose at Agape House—Santa Fe's homeless shelter when officials found him unresponsive in a portable toilet in the shelter's parking lot.  Santa Fe New Mexican
  • On Friday, Chimayó experienced a flash flood as about 1 to 1.75 inches of rain fell in three hours—dozens of homes were damaged.  Santa Fe New Mexican

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Sweetwater Harvest Kitchen in Midtown changed owners this summer when Some Franks sold the restaurant to Angel Velazquez and his sons Pedro and Marvin Lopez—customers continue to enjoy breakfast tacos as before. A few days ago, local ice cream truck Freezie Fresh was robbed—its window was smashed while the owner works to repair the damage.  Santa Fe Reporter

  • Santa Fe firefighter Jesse Flores resigned amid an internal investigation after he failed to report a 2024 criminal charge for attempted drug trafficking—he said the city had been considering his termination.  Santa Fe New Mexican

  • Residents in the Chimayó area cleaned up debris after flash flooding damaged dozens of homes — 1 to 1.75 inches of rain fell over three hours on Friday.  Santa Fe New Mexican

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Attorneys claim that Santa Fe County failed to provide detox care to 50-year-old Rodney Brewer before his release from jail—alleging that this oversight led to his death.  Santa Fe New Mexican
  • Santa Fe officials approved a resolution that directs the city manager to implement a VisionZero plan—aimed at reducing bike crashes and eliminating avoidable traffic fatalities and serious injuries by 2040.  Santa Fe New Mexican
  • The New Mexico State Land Office will hold a public hearing Sept. 30 at 10 a.m. at Morgan Hall (310 Old Santa Fe Trail in Santa Fe) to gather feedback on proposed changes to geothermal leasing rules. The updated rule will replace current regulations and align with new legislative changes to modernize the lease approval process amid growing renewable energy demand.  Santa Fe Reporter

HEALTH NEWS

  • Some New Mexicans have struggled to book appointments for the new COVID vaccine because state rules require a CDC panel review before pharmacies can give the shot—CVS and Walgreens have not yet changed their policies. The health department issued an order and plans to meet with the Board of Nursing later this week to work on removing these barriers.  KOB 4
