CRIME NEWS

  • On Sunday, a family said several men attacked them near Santa Fe Plaza and injured a 71-year-old man while they were walking downtown.  Santa Fe New Mexican

CULTURE NEWS

  • Santa Fe native Tai Fletcher, a former MMA fighter turned film producer, released his debut indie film 'Kill Me Again'—a horror-thriller shot over 12 nights in an Albuquerque restaurant with a local crew. The film follows a serial killer trapped in a time loop and is now streaming.  Santa Fe Reporter
  • The Santa Fe International Film Festival named Edward James Olmos as its 2025 Lifetime Achievement Award recipient — he will be honored at the Lensic on Oct. 18 during the festival running from Oct. 15 to 20. Director Shandiin Tome has opened a casting call for the short film Donuts, Vince Gilligan’s new series Pluribus will debut on Apple TV+ in November with over 1,400 local workers, and Bill Banowsky will screen his documentary A Savage Art in Santa Fe starting Sept. 5.  Santa Fe Reporter

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Santa Fe’s Coe Center will donate its midtown property from its art collection to support a new IAIA Master of Fine Arts campus. The tribal college will use the space—along with a sizable grant—to build the campus in the near future.  Santa Fe New Mexican

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • New Mexico lawmakers expect state revenue to grow by $485M in fiscal year 2027—projecting $14.11B in general fund revenue and $3.94B in reserves from fiscal year 2026. Lawmakers said they may have about $390M to allocate during a special session as federal revenue continues to decline.  KOB 4
  • Child welfare reform advocates invited Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham to the next status hearing as the Children, Youth & Families Department must show measurable progress by Dec. 31 through recruiting foster families, lowering caseloads, and approving over 200 new homes. CYFD received the arbitrator’s order on August 18 and is reviewing findings while compiling data—officials say they intend to comply with the new requirements.  KOB 4
  • PNM hosted a wildfire prevention panel at a Santa Fe town hall on Wednesday—discussing changes to power shutoff notifications aimed at reducing wildfire risks.  Santa Fe New Mexican
  • A Santa Fe Fire Department employee was put on leave after a reporter revealed the firefighter had been charged in 2024 — and a city spokesperson confirmed the matter is not related to the ongoing criminal case over Suboxone.  Santa Fe New Mexican
