Fire officials said the Frijoles Fire has grown to 8,197 acres with 0% containment in Santa Fe County as evacuations and road closures remain in place — a team from California has taken over operations and Albuquerque Fire Rescue crews are en route with a paramedic and EMT to support efforts.
The Frijoles Fire covers 8,921 acres and is 12% contained in Santa Fe and Rio Arriba counties, prompting officials to shift evacuation zones to READY for Borrego Mesa, Nambe Pueblo Lake, Cordova, and parts of Cundiyo and Cerro Piñon as of Saturday – firefighters plan additional containment measures.
Experts advise residents to secure trash cans and remove water and food sources after poor conditions led to a spike in bear sightings statewide.
Santa Fe locals are urged to follow these measures to reduce the risk of future encounters.
