GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Federal judges declined to appoint a U.S. Attorney this week—leaving Ryan Ellison as the state’s top prosecutor, a decision that New Mexico senators criticized.  Santa Fe New Mexican
  • The New Mexico Environment Department issued an emergency rule Aug. 1 banning most synthetic cannabinoids in hemp and marijuana products to prevent serious health risks — hemp facilities had until Aug. 15 to show their ingredients were hemp-derived.  KOB 4
  • The governor is planning to form a Child Protection Authority, but the Office of Child Advocate says its work already covers those needs—officials are rethinking how to adjust its role for better child protection.  Santa Fe New Mexican

HEALTH NEWS

  • Urban Alchemy said the Cerrillos Road homeless shelter is mostly cleared of bedbugs but that keeping the low-barrier facility free of pests will require ongoing work — the group will monitor and treat the shelter to protect residents.
