CRIME NEWS

  • Teens charged in a fight at a Santa Fe Burger King are accused of fatally shooting a homeless man in Albuquerque — police are investigating the incidents.  Santa Fe New Mexican
  • Teens were arrested in Santa Fe after attacking a family and injuring a pregnant woman at a Burger King— they are also accused in Albuquerque of killing a homeless man.  Santa Fe New Mexican

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The New Mexico Children, Youth and Families Department must fix safety and service problems to keep federal funds— a U.S. Children’s Bureau review found slow responses to child abuse reports and limited home checks. The agency has two years to complete a Program Improvement Plan that addresses these child safety concerns.  KOB 4
  • New Mexicans will soon be able to play tennis or pickleball at the governor’s mansion, which has been completely restored— the governor said the property was once in disrepair. The upgrades prepare the mansion for upcoming public sports events.  Santa Fe New Mexican
  • New Mexicans can now access forms and guidance to apply for compensation under the expanded Radiation Exposure Compensation Act — the law now covers uranium mine workers from 1972 to 1990 and downwinders from the Trinity Test, and the current program will expire in 2028.  KOB 4
  • Santa Fe County commissioners hired Bohannan Huston to provide engineering design services for the Agua Fría wastewater project that has been in the works for years — the project aims to upgrade local wastewater management.
