Activist group Fire on the Mountain is running a billboard campaign urging the U.S. Department of Energy to send LANL nuclear waste to a storage site in Southern New Mexico.
The group calls for safer handling of legacy waste to protect local residents.
Wildfire smoke from the Frijoles Fire forced many students indoors today in Santa Fe and nearby areas, and forecasters expect air quality to improve later.
Overnight, the Frijoles Fire grew to 6,200 acres in the Sangre de Cristo Mountains a few miles southeast of Cundiyó and a smoke advisory remains in effect.
