- ➤ A new report by the New Mexico Maternal Mortality Review Committee shows the state still has high maternal death rates with 28.0 deaths per 100,000 births in 2023 and over 80% of deaths from 2015 to 2020 were preventable. The report says that mental health issues, substance abuse, and discrimination hurt care for some women plus Indigenous women face higher risks while experts urge expanded Medicaid coverage for postpartum care.
