COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Locker 505 launched a mobile clothing bank using a renovated bus that will offer outfits, hoodies, shoes, snacks, and socks to an extra 3,000 students statewide each year — the nonprofit also seeks donor help for further bus updates.  KOB 4

  • Whataburger will open its first restaurant in Santa Fe on Cerrillos Road Monday morning as the fourth franchise in New Mexico for PCL Ventures.  Santa Fe New Mexican

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Jason Morgan, principal of ATC Charter School, was placed on leave as his contract was not renewed for the next school year according to the governing council president on Friday.  Santa Fe New Mexican
  • Santa Fe Children's Museum received a $10,000 grant to boost its STEM programs (one of 20 museums nationwide to get this funding) and will use the funds to create hands-on science activities for local kids.  Santa Fe New Mexican
  • The Santa Fe school board extended superintendent Christine Griffin's contract for two years + increased her salary to $208,000 after she joined the district from Arizona last year.  Santa Fe New Mexican

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • U.S. Forest Service crews in New Mexico are training daily using helicopter support and other fire-fighting tools amid low snowpack to prepare for an early wildfire season. The Sandia heli-tech crew is checking its helicopter to assist on fires as early as Thursday.  KOB 4

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • New federal rules require SNAP recipients to work 80 hours a month starting June 1 or risk losing food assistance for three years. The New Mexico Health Care Authority will ask SNAP applicants to show proof of shelter costs & utilities beginning May 1.  KOB 4
