About this event
Can rain gardens help conserve water while supporting healthy urban trees? Join the City of Santa Fe River & Watershed Section for a River Talks presentation featuring Aaron Kauffman of Southwest Urban Hydrology. Drip irrigation is commonly used to conserve water by delivering it directly to trees. Rain gardens offer an alternative by capturing stormwater runoff and allowing it to soak into the soil, potentially providing moisture to a larger area without the need for pumps or filtration systems. Kauffman will share findings from four years of soil moisture monitoring around trees in parking lots, comparing rain gardens with conventional raised medians that use drip irrigation.
