Intro to Mosaic

About this event

Have you ever wanted to break stuff and call it art? Now is your chance! In this workshop, you’ll learn the raw fundamentals of mosaic-making: picking your materials (tiles, broken plates and mugs, stained glass, found objects and more), breaking and cutting techniques, and arranging pieces into something strangely beautiful. You’ll also get a crash course in andamento - the mesmerizing tile-flow that gives mosaics their hypnotic rhythm. Piece by piece, your mind relaxes into the groove and your stress dissolves. It's hands-on meditation. You’ll walk away with your own mosaic, plus grout and instructions to finish it off at home. Come make something perfectly imperfect! What to wear? Art making clothes aka nothing fancy. Feel free to bring an apron. What will be provided? All materials, including your own small mosaic canvas, mosaic tiles and other tesserae (pieces used for mosaics). Beverages and snacks are available for purchase at the Float Cafe. About the Instructor: Didi Bethurum found mosaic making in 2020 during the pandemic. Today, it has become her hobby of choice to balance out her time spent on screens.
